Object Description
A bronze commemorative medal from the Third Pan American Games. One side of the medal depicts North and South America, the location and date of the games in text, and a city of Chicago seal. Lines are extending away from this seal. There is a star located on North America indicating the location of the games in Chicago. The reverse side of the medal has a city scape along the bottom. The word "commemorative" is arched over the top and a torch superimposed on a ring with incised lines around it is placed over the city scape. Lines are extending from this ring. There is a small bronze bit that protrudes from the bottom of the medal.
Origin
The bronze medal was won by the donor, Petros Spanakos at the 1959 Third Pan American Games. He was in the Bantamweight group. Petros, along with his twin brother Nick, have won 48 titles between them. These titles include Gold Gloves as well as an Olympic participation medal.
