Object Description
A star shaped, bronze colored Durango, Colorado Territory sheriff's badge. The badge reads 'Durango' on the first line, 'Sheriff' on the second line, and 'Colorado T.' on the third line. There is a metal pin on the back of the badge. There is also a small engraved fox on the back of the badge. The badge has some slight tarnish on the edges.
Origin
George and Spiros Papachristos immigrated to the U.S. from Greece in 1912 at the age of 16 or 17. They went back to Greece in the late 1930's. After WWII they moved to Utah. After living in Utah they moved to Chicago. The badge dates from 1861-1876 when Colorado was a territory. The donor claims Spiros was a sheriff in Colorado, however he did not immigrate to the U.S. until 1912.
