Object Description
A pin-back button. The background of the button is made up of horizontal blue and white stripes. In the middle of the button is a black-and-white picture of an Evzone leaning on a rifle, standing against a white background. Above this picture, there is a Greek phrase written in blue letters on a white background. The phrase translates as "Help Greece". Below the picture, also in blue letters on a white background, is the English phrase "Help Greece". The back is made of metal and has a non-fastening pin. The metal part is very rusted.
Origin
This pin was donated by Jenny Boondas. It was part of a collection belonging to her brother-in-law, Constantine Brown, who died in 2014. This button is from World War II. It was likely made for the Greek War Relief Association, which was an American organization founded to raise money and supplies for those in Greece affected by the war. The organization had chapters in different parts of the country, mostly run and supported by Greek Americans. Evzones was the name of several historical Greek military units and is now used to refer to members of the Greek Presidential Guard.
