Object Description
A pin-back button. The button has a white background and light blue boarder. On the left side of the button is an American flag hanging vertically and on the right side is a light blue Greek flag hanging vertically. Between the flags is a statue of a winged figure. Above statue is the word "Victory", with a large V underneath it. Below the statue, the word "Nike" is written in Greek. Text on the edge of the pin says "Made in U.S.A. Acropolis Novelty Co NYC". The back is made of metal and has a non-fastening pin. The metal part is very rusted and some of the rust has bled through to the front of the pin.
Origin
This button was donated by Jenny Boondas. It was part of a collection belonging to her brother-in-law, Constantine Brown, who died in 2014. This button is from World War II. It was likely made for the Greek American community to support both the Greek and American efforts in the war. The statue on the pin depicts Nike, the Ancient Greek Goddess of Victory. The button either celebrates an Allied victory in the war or simply promotes the idea of future victory.
