Object Description
A pin-back button. The button is white with an image of a Greek flag waving on a black pole. In front of the flag is a black rectangle, and inside the rectangle is an image of an Evzone standing in front of a Greek landscape. The Evzone has a red hat and shoes and a blue shirt. Written in blue letters around the left side of the button is a Greek phrase that translates as "Hurrah for Greece". The back is made of metal and has a non-fastening pin. The button is a little bit dirty and the back is rusty.
Origin
This button was donated by Jenny Boondas. It was part of a collection belonging to her brother-in-law, Constantine Brown, who died in 2014. This button is probably from World War II. It was likely made for the Greek American community, both to support the Greek war effort and to show Greek pride. Evzones was the name of several historical Greek military units and is now used to refer to members of the Greek Presidential Guard.
