Object Description
A piece of street art. The work appears to have been made using spray paint. The background is mostly blue, with streaks of oranges, pinks, and purples. Painted on top of this, in black and white, is an image of a child's head with the face looking down and to the side. The face is mostly white, with the details done in black. The top of the head, where the forehead and hair should be, fades to a white backround in the top left, which fades into the multi-colored background of the painting. A flock of black birds are painted against the background int he top left. The letter "STMTS" are in the bottom right corner.
Origin
This artwork was donated by the Greek street artist STMTS. The artist prefers to remain anonymous. The work was part of an exhibit on Greet graffiti and street art. Street art has become prolific in Greece, especially in Athens, since the beginning of the Greek debt crisis in the late 2000s. Street art is a way for people to express themselves while remaining largely anonymous, and has emerged as a way for Greek artists to express their feelings and concerns about the economy and its effect on the Greek population.
