Object Description
A small icon of The Dormition of the Virgin Mary (Theotokos). The foreground shows the Earthly view of the Virgin Mary's death. She is seen in the center of the iconĀ surrounded by crowd of people and is dressed in a blue robe with a cream colored vail and golden halo. The image above is of the Heavenly realm where Christ and his angels welcome The Virgin Mary. Christ is seen in the center dressed in a red and blue robes and is holding the infant version of the Virgin Mary. On the back on the icon is a metal hook which allows one to hang the object on the wall.
Origin
The object is owned by the Powers family and is connected to other items and photographs within the same collection.
