Object Description
A black and white photograph of a young woman. She is wearing a black dress with long sleeves, which hits midcalf. She is wearing black tights and black shoes. Her dress has a white collar around the top. She is standing behind a stand which has a book on it. Her left arm is behind her back, and her right arm is resting on the book with her finger pointed. She is wearing a cross necklace. She has dark hair which is pulled back into a ponytail. She is standing in front of a white chair. The background of the picture is a painted window with curtains and a vase with flowers.

Photographs donated by Mae Counelis from her mother, Koula Lazou Counelis' estate.

Mae H. Counelis,of Berwyn, IL, was born Feb. 10, 1931 to the late Koula and Anthony Counelis. She was raised in Chicago Heights, IL, and graduated from Bloom High School. Mae received a bachelor of science degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. She worked in the research department of the U of I, Chicago. Later, she worked in cancer research at Schering Corp. in NJ where she developed a patent for helping to cure cervical cancer.
