Object Description
A black and white portrait of a young girl. She is standing in the middle of a carpet, wearing a checkered coat. The coat has two buttons going down, and a white collar. It also has a belted waist and a pocket at each hip. The little girl is wearing white pants and black shoes. It looks like she is wearing a hat, however, the picture is cut off. She stands with both arms at her sides and is wearing a ring on her right middle finger.

Mae H. Counelis, of Berwyn, IL, was born on Feb. 10, 1931, to the late Koula and Anthony Counelis. She was raised in Chicago Heights, IL, and graduated from Bloom High School. Mae received a bachelor of science degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. She worked in the research department of the U of I, Chicago. Later, she worked in cancer research at Schering Corp. in NJ where she developed a patent for helping to cure cervical cancer.
