Object Description
This is a possible studio photograph of a man posing in his U.S. Army uniform. He sits tall at an angle in a wooden chair and looks off to his right. His right hand rests on the arm of the chair while his left arm rests on his crossed legs. The bottom of the image stops just below the knees of the soldier. The back of the wooden chair is much more out of focus compared to the rest of the objects in the image; however, there are still decorative carvings that can be made out. Behind the wooden chair to the left appears to be a false backdrop imitating a tall open window looking out into some trees with birds flying through them. Behind the chair to the right is a blurred back drop, perhaps created by a long exposure time.
Origin
This photograph is of Peter Clironomos, a private of the U.S. Army during World War I. He retired in Lyrkeia, Argos, Greece around 1956. The photograph was donated by Dena Colovos in 2012 to the National Hellenic Museum. The photograph is from Peter Colovos's village of Belesi, now Lypkeia, Argos.
