Object Description
A laminated copy of a black-and-white photographic. The image depicts a large group of men facing the camera. The men are in are in five rows, with the first row stting and the other rows likely standing on risers. All of the men are wearing suits and ties and all appear to be middle-aged or older. The images is grainy and there are two white streaks through the lower part of the picture.
Text printed in Greek above the photo identifies the men as member of the celebration committee for a religious event having to do with Moses and the Jews wandering in the desert. Below the image, also in Greek, is a caption giving the name of each man in the photograph.
Origin
This picture was donated by Daisy Agres. The caption identifies the second man from the right in the third row as John Agreostathes. John Agreostathes. Agreostathes (or Agriostathis) was born in 1879 and apparently served as an officer in the Greek army before immigrating to the United States. In the lead-up to the Balkan Wars, he organized and trained young Greek men in Chicago. In 1912, it is recorded that they were preparing to travel to Greece to take part in the conflict. This photograph was taken for some kind of religious event, but it is unclear what exactly the even was or when it took place.
