Object Description
This float from the 1975 Greek Independence Day Parade was created by the Pan Epirotic Federation of America. The phrase "Northern Epirus Must Be Freed" refers to the Northern Epirus region of Albania, which has a large Greek population. The Pan Epirotic Federation is composed of Greek Americans with roots in the Epirus region of northwest Greece. The word "Oxi," which is Greek for "No," represents the refusal of Greeks to accommodate Italian troops during World War II on October 28, 1940.
