Object Description
A tagari; a woolen multicolored handmade tote bag. The bag is rectangular and brightly colored with pink, maroon, and green stitching along the edges on all four sides. Each side of the tagari is different from the other, having a unique large geometric design running vertically down the center of the tote with complementary multi-colored zig-zag patterns starting out boldly in the center and growing darker as they reach the outer edges.
The outermost color of the tagari is dark blue. The pattern of zig-zags begins with the color red, followed by teal, then pink, then green. The zig-zag pattern runs up the left side, across the top and back down the opposite side. It continues to the other side of the tagari and runs around the outer edges in the same way it did on the first side. At the center of the bag, a geometric design runs down the center and continues to the other side. It consists of blocks or sections of brightly colored geometric patterns stacked on top of each other.
The first side consists of three blocks or sections. The top section is long and vertical with yellow, green, pink, blue and purple colors. Next, comes a narrow orange horizontal block with blue and green hourglass shapes woven in. The final section looks like a large yellow hourglass trimmed in orange and purple.
The second side is the same as the first side, as far as the sides and zig-zagged edges go. However, the center design is different. It has six blocks or sections. The top block is primarily purple and green, and bigger than the block immediately beneath it. Next, there is the smaller pink and blue section. The next three blocks are smaller yet but are equal in size to each other; beginning with a yellow and purple section, followed by green and white, then pink and purple. At the very bottom, the last colorful block returns to the original larger size of the purple and green block at the top. It is orange, purple, and blue.

Origin
This tagari was made by the donor's mother, Panayiota Spartin. William Spartin was born in 1934.
