Object Description
Handmade taupe crocheted apron with red velvet ribbons as strings and peach ribbons woven through the crochet. Where the ribbons are woven through, the crochet is done in three thin bars on each side, which come together in the middle, allowing the ribbon to go through. The rest of the crochet forms a gridlike pattern, with a different design around the edges.
Origin
This apron is considered a half apron, since it only extends from the waist down. Aprons were popular before the 1960s in order to protect clothing. However, after the 1960s, aprons were used less often because of cheap clothes and the use of washing machines. Aprons like this one were often worn for doing chores inside the home.
