Origin
The baby things were designed and embroidered by Evangelia Hadzisteliou, who was born in Smyrna in 1898. She fled to Athens with her family, escaping the Turks in the burning of Smyrna in 1922. She had a son in 1934 and a daughter (Theodora) in 1938. She died in Athens in 1978. She was a talented painter and embroidery designer, and worked as such in Athens, supporting her whole family, and putting her older brother through medical school. She was the oldest of four, with three younger brothers. The baby items were worn by the donor, her brothers and sisters, and her two sons, Morgan Nicholas and Alkes. She married in 1932, and some of her handmade items were a part of her dowry.
