Object Description
White hand knit baby cape with hood. There is a white pom pom hanging off of the hood, as well as on the ties that ties the cape in the front. The design on the cape is upward facing half circles that connect at their corners, and leave holes where they don't connect. The edge of the cape is cream colored, and it has a design of repeated peaks, except on the hood. The hood of the cape has more of a diamond design, with blank areas betweeen the diamonds.
Origin
This was knitted by the donor, Theodora Hadzisteliou Price in the early 1970s, while pregnant with her first son. She quit teaching and research in Archaeology and did fulltime preparation for motherhood. She had left Greece in 1962 for graduate studies in England, after which she worked for a bit in the University of Sydney, Australia, and then migrated to America in 1967 to New York, after which she came to chicago in 1968 and taught Greek Art and Archaeology at the University of Chicago.
