Object Description
A framed piece, consisting of two parts. The bottom part is a photocopy of the ship's manifest for the steam ship the donor's father, John A. Zaphiris was on when he immigrated to America from Greece. The donors father's name can be found on line #21 on the manifest.

The manifest contains columns denoting the nationality of each passanger, their city of origin, their occupation, their height, the person they were going to be staying with, how much money they had on their person, whether they were in good health, and what their religion was.

The top part is a photocopied picture of the ship itself, the SS Noordam.
Origin
Sharyn Weiss father, John A. Zaphiris, immigrated to America from Chlomos, Epiros, Greece, aboard the SS Noordam on March 14th, 1903, by way of Boulognes-sur-Mer in France.

He was one of 17 Greeks on the ship, all of whom were eventually bound for Chicago. Once he arrived he moved to Chicago and went to work at the Palmer House hotel in order to save enough money to bring his young bride over to meet him.
