Object Description
Bronze, silver-coated comb holder. The holder has smooth, non-embellished framing surrounding embossed curling ferns on each side. At the center of the embossment on each side is an embossed double-headed eagle. There is a small hole on the one side at the end of the holder. Most likely this hole was used to hold the comb in the holder by placing something through the hole.
Origin
Donated by Evelyn Chemins. Comb holders were used to embellish regular hair combs. The double-headed eagle is a symbol used by both the Greek Orthodox Church and the Greek state and can be traced back to use by the Byzantine emperors.
